Cambridge Operatic Society return to Cambridge Arts Theatre with their brand new production of the timeless classic musical, Fiddler on the Roof. The production will be helmed by exciting young director, Nicola Samer, currently the resident director on the no. 1 UK tour of The Witches of Eastwick.
In a Jewish village in turn of the century Russia, Teyve, a poor milkman with five daughters, struggles to preserve his family’s traditions in the face of a changing world. When his eldest daughter defies his wish that she marry the middle-aged butcher he has chosen for her, Teyve must choose between his own daughter’s happiness and the beloved traditions that keep the outside world at bay. But with the outside world threatening to destroy the very life he is trying to preserve, Teyve and his family are forced to make decisions that will change their futures forever.
Based on the Yiddish folk stories of Sholem Aleichem, Fiddler on the Roof has been delighting audiences the world over for nearly half a century. The multi-award winning score boasts some of the finest show tunes ever written, including: ‘If I Were A Rich Man’, ‘Tradition’, ‘Sunrise, Sunset’ and ‘Far From The Home I Love’ and is a story guaranteed to warm your heart.
