Cambridge Arts Theatre Productions presents
MY FAIR LADY
Book and lyrics by ALAN J. LERNER
Music by FREDERICK LOEWE
An Amateur Production by arrangement with Musicscope
and Stage Musicals Ltd. of New York.
Following the storming success of last year’s Anything Goes, Cambridge Arts Theatre is proud to present its own home-grown production of one of the greatest musicals of all time: My Fair Lady.
When phonetics Professor Henry Higgins encounters grubby Eliza Doolittle selling flowers outside Covent Garden Opera House, he makes a wager that he can pass her off as an English aristocrat merely by teaching her to speak correctly. Once the transformation from rebellious guttersnipe to elegant debutante is made, Higgins turns his back on his creation. But when faced with the prospect of losing Eliza for good, he begins to realise that life without her may be a far worse alternative…
The timeless story of the feisty flower-girl elevated to the dizzying heights of the English aristocracy is known and loved the world over. Lerner and Loewe took Bernard Shaw’s flawless play, Pygmalion, and succeeded in turning it into the perfect musical that has stood the test of time. Featuring a ravishing score, an abundance of some of the finest songs ever written for musical theatre and the cream of Cambridge’s amateur performing talent, this is a ‘loverley’ highlight of the season that’s not to be missed!.
