Shared Experience presents the Salisbury Playhouse production of

THE GLASS MENAGERIE

By TENNESSEE WILLIAMS
Starring IMOGEN STUBBS

“I tried to leave you behind me
but I am more faithful than I intended to be”

Following its memorable production of Jane Eyre, the glorious Shared Experience returns to Cambridge with one of the most powerful family dramas ever written about love, longing and frustrated dreams. Tennessee Williams’ most autobiographical play is a brilliant and compelling portrait of a family in crisis.

In the tenement apartments of St. Louis, the Wingfield family struggle to make ends meet. As America is ravaged by the Depression, Amanda clings to memories of her idyllic youth in the South, where she was wooed by handsome and rich suitors. When her son, Tom, an aspiring poet stuck in a dead-end job, is given the task of finding a suitable gentleman caller for his painfully shy and withdrawn sister, Laura, he invites a friend home for dinner. It is an evening that will be forever imprinted on their memories.

Shared Experience has captivated audiences the world over with its productions, fusing stunning visual imagery with powerful text. Recent works include Jane Eyre, War and Peace, Kindertransport and The Caucasian Chalk Circle.
