'I AM NOT WHAT I AM’

Propeller, the remarkable all-male Shakespeare ensemble, are back with a fabulous double bill. The company that brought you A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Winter’s Tale now bring two comedies in which deception reveals true feelings.

Propeller mix a rigorous approach to the text with a modern physical aesthetic. Their unabashedly playful style, complemented by music performed by the actors live on stage, will delight both the Shakespeare lover and novice.

Both plays explore beautifully how being in love with the wrong person reveals true feeling as Shakespeare asks us to examine what makes happiness.

THE TAMING OF THE SHEW
Shakespeare’s brilliantly surreal and controversial romantic comedy gives us a glimpse into the complex relationship between husband and wife. A drunken groom realises his mistake on his wedding day and a furious father in law teaches him a lesson. A man playing a boy dresses up as a girl and a girl played by a boy dresses up as a bride in a delicious story full of mistaken identities and transformations.

TWELFTH NIGHT
On the island of Illyria nothing is quite what it seems. Shipwrecks, storms, late night drinking, duels and broken hearts make fertile ground for Shakespeare’s most beautiful and haunting of comedies. Trapped in the whirligig of time, a woman has her love for a man awakened by a woman.
