My name is Emily Bowen, and I’m a 16 year old student from Cambridge who has now completed a week’s work experience at Cambridge Arts Theatre. For me, the attraction was in discovering how a regional theatre works – particularly backstage working with the lights and sound! I can now honestly say I have a better insight of how the industry works, from programming the shows to when they are performed on the stage. Here’s a quick look at what I’ve been up to this week:

In 1977 The Morecambe & Wise TV Christmas Special attracted over 28 million viewers. Over half the population of Britain at the time. An enviable record that’s not been touched and unlikely to be repeated ever again.

Our Front of House department are responsible for our customers having the best possible experience when they visit the theatre to watch a show. From your pre-show cocktail, interval ice-cream to simply taking your seat in the auditorium, our hardworking FOH team are responsible for each performance running smoothly and everyone in the building.

All aboard! Star of EastEnders and recent winner on MasterChef John Partridge is preparing to visit Cambridge Arts Theatre once again as he takes to the stage in Tom Stoppard's highly entertaining and downright absurd comedy Rough Crossing. 

We stole 5 minutes of John's time to hear all about the show, and picked his brain about life after Masterchef...

The Cambridge Footlights are one of Britain’s oldest student sketch comedy troupes. Their inaugural performance took place in June 1883. A local paper commended the Footlights on their appeal to “the many different classes of which life in Cambridge is made up".
