Henry VIII bestrides the history of our country like a colossus. He invented the idea of British uniqueness and the Reformation could be defined as the first Brexit, when his ministers devised the doctrine of parliamentary sovereignty.

For one night only, David Starkey draws on his extraordinary knowledge of Henry’s reign to examine his tumultuous personal life, which pitted religion against politics as brutally as our own age of Isis, offering so many parallels with the Brexit situation we find ourselves in today.

David Starkey is a Cambridge educated grammar school boy who became a respected LSE lecturer, a uniquely abrasive debater on Radio 4’s Moral Maze, a controversial contributor to Question Time and the creator and presenter of many popular historical TV series on such subjects as Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, the Monarchy, the Churchills and Music and Monarchy.
